i thank you God for most this amazing day; for the leaping greenly spirits of trees and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything which is natural which is infinite which is yes

Dear Heron Dancers,
The Song Of The White-Throated Sparrow
The crystal clear notes
of a white-throated sparrow
floated down through the trees today.
And then a mile further up the trail, another.
The first songs to come my way
in the spring forest.
I like winter,
when white covers the earth.
I like summer
when the woods are green and warm.
But I love the wild forest
when things are changing.
Now, the first week of spring.
Still some patches of snow linger
in the shade under the big trees.
The air warms then cools then warms
in the bright sun.
Trees with swollen buds, waiting.
The first birds are back.
Their songs celebrate what is
about to come.
We humans know four seasons.
I wonder how many seasons
the inhabitants of these woods know.
Maybe fifty-two.
Maybe each week is a new season
for those who go about their routine
deep in the woods.
The long, hard winter is over.
New life will soon fill these woods.
A flood of green, bird song, wildflowers.
And the white-throated sparrow
sings its song anticipating
the change to come.
In celebration of the Great Mystery of Life,

Roderick W. MacIver

The Heron Dance Nature Art Journal
Back Issue Sets
The
Heron Dance Nature Art Journal
is over fourteen years old. It is a dynamic and creative
work of love that is constantly evolving. Over the
years, we've found that we often come back to three
themes that fascinate us: Nature, The
Seeker's Journey, and Creativity. While
every issue incorporates all three concepts, we are
currently offering three sets of back issues that
best represent each theme. Each set is $15 and includes
five issues (a $30 value). Quantities are limited.

The Nature Back Issue Set:
For
me, there is a sense of Godliness in the wilderness—a
sense that touches me in a very basic kind of way.
It comes out when I see a sunset, or a mountain
or it comes out when I see a flower. It strikes
me when I just sit back. I consciously recognize
a force, a sense of something much, much bigger
than me. I am not sure why I know the experience
is meaningful and significant, but it is.

The Nature Back Issue Set
The Creativity Back Issue Set:
For original ideas to come about, you have to let them percolate under the level of consciousness in a place where we have no way to make them obey our own desires or our own direction. Their random combinations are driven by forces we don't know about.

The Seeker's Journey Back Issue Set:
You monks, straining day after day to understand what Zen might be, are barking up the wrong tree! What you can't seem to see is that all is beyond understanding, not just one thing or many things, but every single thing is fundamentally beyond our understanding. The Really Real, in its Suchness, is beyond our understanding.
