A Pause For Beauty

One ought every day at least to hear a little song

One thing you can begin taking for granted is that every person you meet who seems to have courage, dignity, compassion and humility has experienced failure and weakness and shame.
            - Bo Lozoff, The Human Kindness Foundation newsletter

One ought every day at least to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words.

Emergers For the Fuel
Green River, Wyoming

Swallows compete with trout
for caddis flies, yellow sallys,
stoneflies, green leafhoppers.
Ravens hurl their old-woman-cries,
a magpie calls, yellow warblers chirp.
The mayfly deposits her ova on the water.
As the rainbow trout rises to take her:
the silver and splash,
the cloud-burst of color,
sky in water.
Now the nighthawk, then the sun
settles down behind the dam —
one more cloud to set on fire.
- Marcyn Clements
